Not sure about the handwriting, but about the scanning--maybe it was a take-home test/quiz, and before turning it in the student scanned the ungraded paper with the intention of submitting it to this site. Then he realized that the marked-up copy made it decidedly more awesome and scanned it again, putting them side-by-side.
