100% British :) The date at the top say 24/5/01 not 5/24/01. Year 9 = 13-14 year olds.

What worries me is the penalty for not attending the detention... I could kind of understand being suspended FROM school for a day, but it seems a bit Draconian for the child to be suspended AT school for a day... By the thumbs? Feet? Or neck?

For all the yanks I THINK it goes like this: Year 9 is Freshman, Year 10 is Sophomore (sp?), Year 11 is Junior and Year 12 is Senior. In Canada we just say "grade" instead of "year" but it's all the same as far as I know.

Almost all European countries write the date like that... and there are a lot of international school where they speak english. For example a part of my school! (I'm dutch ;)

Year 9 isn't a Freshman is it? I assumed this was British. I thought you had Grades in America.

24-5-01, that is used in the commonwealth, so the countries Australia, England, New Zealan etc., whereas in America uses 5-24-01 (maybe other countries also but im an Auzzie)
