There isn't a correct way to answer that question, unless we live in imagination land where an object can move against another one without creating any friction whatsoever and objects can also contine to move after coming to a rest.........might as well draw an elephant......

i love this. we had a sub today in bio class and we finished our labs. the guys started pulling out laptops and were playing dota (they blocked the firewall and knew admin password. i dont know how). afterwards they were done and theyre like hey lets look at funnyexam.com. we came, we saw, we laughed hysterically

on a "frictionless ramp" (assuming there is no elephant) the object will just be launched back off the ramp and not com to rest until it hits the ground on the other side. For it to come to rest on the ramp, there would have to be friction

That was a stupid answer. The kid was doing everything just right. Ug = mgh = (3.00kg)(9.81m/s^2)(5m) = 147J Us = .5kx^2 = .5(100N/m)x^2 By the Work-Energy Theorem: Ei = Ef Ug = Us mgh = .5kx^2 x = sqrt(2mgh/k) x = sqrt[2(3.00kg)(9.81m/s^2)(5m)/(100N/m)] x = sqrt(2.943m^2) x = 1.72m

At all the retards commenting on the frictionless ramp. Unless you're trolling (in which case you aren't a retard), this is theoretical physics. Anyone with half a brain knows that a frictionless ramp doesn't exist.

It's on a slope... By coming to rest the professor is asking if it will stop on the slope completely. Since it's on a slope, it would need to come to rest before it continued back down the slope. Therefore (b) is stated correctly.

Um, if it moved up the slope after coming to "rest" it wouldn't have been at rest, and how could it stop and come to "rest" again midway back up the slope. Can the person who drew the elephant give the teacher a FAIL? Actually, I think he/she did in the only way that makes sense.

This is a much more complicated question that it appears to be. Gravity, slope, spring (oh god). Should have added friction into the equation and just made it the only question.
