Lol, like my teacher was trying to explain significance number (1.000 etc) That 1.000 could be either 1.004 or.. then he didn't know the other one. He kept wrong down 1.0something. Then I just walked to to the board and wrote down 0.995 and left.

I'm confused now. 1 Km=approx. 0.62 mi. If that's true, then her statement would have been true, and his false. So why does she say that she was wrong and he was right? Could she have forced her views upon the parents as well, by making what was wrong seem right?

sometimes it is easier to give in to the fact that most of these teachers will make your life miserable. I had a physics mark or 76% in a half assed canadian education system. while talking about energy propagation through water. after me explaining that she was mistaken. that a wave energy moves the water as it passes through. she told me i was stupid. So i asked if she was so smart then why can a seagull sit on top of a wave. she was stumped. kicked me out of class and i was not allowed to return to that class. had this conversation taken place a week later i would have had an average good enough to just squeek by. instead i got a 48%. The only reason i did not pursue a career in education, or continue my education to the post secondary academia is because my education system only set me up for complete and utter failure. compiled with debt I took a trade and have been well paid since high school. strived to gain certifications in my field and all the wile i can barely do long division(calculator kid)

I just KNOW I'm going to get thumbdowned for this, but there are ways of telling the teacher that they are wrong and calling them a liar is not a good one. Much better to say that you believe they are mistaken and ask them to prove or justify what they are saying with external evidence. I quietly told the teacher who presumed to try to teach us French that she was wrong at the end of a lesson one day - NOT in front of the class, only to be bawled out by my class teacher; Needless to say I WAS right... but like Alex I was told NEVER to challenge authority.

Hey, in High School I challenged the teacher on a Geometry question and proved the answer key wrong. She had to do the math herself and not accept the "Teachers Addition as Gospel.

My teacher told the entire class that "0.9 (repeated)" was equivalent to 1, and I argued that it was technically rounded. He insisted that if the nine's never ended (as in 0.999999999999999999999999999999999999999 etc. because that's what repeated IS) that it would eventually turn into 1. When I argued with him, he said "Don't worry, I have a student like you in my class every year," and then he continued on with his lesson.

The student didn't get detention for contradicting the teacher. He got detention for being rude, calling the teacher a liar and disrupting the class. The proper response would be to suggest the teacher was "mistaken" inclass and if she disagreed say that you'd check it after class than spend the class rolling your eyes and correct the teacher afterwards. I've done it before to teachers and had it done to me as a professional.

I´m mexican, but studied elementary school in the U.S. During high school here in Mexico my "english teacher", mexican as well, stated that desert and dessert meant the opposite. Even he pronounced them wrong. I corrected him in front of class and that was it. He failed me because he would´n t recognize his major mistake. What a stupid looser! Of course I went to the principal´s office and after hearing both stories and our allegations I was excused from the class the rest of the semester, with an A+.
